Nottinghamshire Rifle Association
|
| Home | This section covers a wide range
of "long gun" shooting, ranging from
flintlock musket through flintlock,
percussion and black powder breech loading rifles.
The great variety of shooting made available by the different ignition systems allows for endless pleasure in experimentation to get the best from each kind of firearm. Shooting takes place once a month on the 100m range of the Notts
& Derby Vintage Arms Society at Ravenshead. Also we use the Thorpe Cloud
range in Derbyshire for 200-500yd competitions. There are annual cups and trophies to shot for each year
and some splendid medals are awarded for the various competitions. An open
County Championship shoot is held in September using muzzle loading military
and target Many of the active members of the section are also members of the
Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain and shoot as teams or individuals
outside the county with the Robinhood Rifles, which is the local branch of
the MLAGB. The Notts RA Some of our members have mastered black powder to the extent that they are regular members of the MLAGB Great Britain team, which travels the world to compete in international championships. The fact that they are ready and willing to pass on information and advice demonstrates the comradeship to be found in the black powder world. The Notts Black Powder Section is not an exclusive world of "hot shots". We actively seek newcomers, be they absolute novices or experts and we are prepared to give instruction where required.
