EXTRACT FROM THE REPORT OF THE COUNCIL
For the year ending 31st December 2005
OBJECTS OF THE CHARITY
The principal object for which the Association was established is to promote
the general acquisition by Citizens of the United Kingdom and in particular
those resident in the County and City of Nottingham, of skills in shooting
and the safe use of firearms with a view thereto to promote the establishment
and maintenance of rifle and pistol clubs.
REVIEW OF ACTIVITES
In furtherance of its objects, the Association has organised competitions
during the year in various target-shooting disciplines. These competitions
have covered full bore rifle, full bore vintage rifle, small bore rifle,
and black powder muskets and rifles for both individual and team events.
It has provided prizes, medals, and trophies to be awarded to the winners
of these competitions, which have been keenly contested by a large number
of Nottinghamshire shooters. It has also encouraged members and member clubs
to participate in competitions held in other counties and at national and
international level.
The County full bore rifle team has taken part in the Purples Match, Painter
Shield, the Inter-Counties Meeting and County Short & Long (Senior) Matches
at the Imperial Meeting at the National Shooting Centre at Bisley. During
the Imperial Meeting Nottinghamshire shooters gained high rankings in many
competitions, including 20th place in H.M. Queen's Prize. The County was
represented in the England team for the National Match at Bisley, in the
Great Britain Under 25 Team that toured Australia, and also in the England
Match Rifle Team in the Elcho Match at Bisley.
The County Small Bore Teams have taken part in National Leagues. Club teams
have participated in Nottinghamshire leagues and those run by other Counties
and County Associations. County Club members have participated in the National
Small Bore Meeting at Bisley.
Regular monthly shoots, including a two-day Open Meeting and the County Championship,
have been arranged by the Black Powder section of the Association. Nottinghamshire
shooters took part in the Muzzle Loaders Association of Great Britain Short
Range Championships and collected four gold, three silver and one bronze
medals. A Nottinghamshire shooter was the Captain of the GB team for the
2005 World Mid and Long Range Championships, and two others were in the team.
The Captain won gold medals at 500 and 1000 yards.
A grant was given to a Nottinghamshire full bore shooter to assist with the
expenses of taking part in the National Rifle Association team to the Channel
Islands in 2005.
