Notts Bulletin
Issue
No. 5 –
Winter 2004/5
Overview
My apologies for the Newsletter being somewhat late.
Last summer the Home Office published a Consultative Document on Firearms Control - an opportunity it was claimed for organisations and individuals to respond to the proposals.
Following agreement at Notts. R.A. Committee Meeting, and in consultation with the Association Chairman, Treasurer, and some other Committee members, I produced a typescript response of what were our main concerns. Contactable NRA members were also minuted to do the same.
The National Rifle Association was one of the key shooting organisations to respond. In the Winter edition of the NRA Journal their 12 x A4 page response to the Home Office was published. Although too large to reproduce in this Newsletter, I believe their points were pertinently made, and recommend it as interesting and informative reading. Anyone who wishes to receive a paper copy of the response can obtain one from me by emailing me at mhsh@bgs.ac.uk
Website and Club Contacts
One of the Association’s main aims is to improve information accessibility to promote shooting for potential newcomers to the target-shooting disciplines. Increasing numbers of prospective newcomers contact us after accessing the Nottinghamshire Rifle Association website. Most of these enquiries are channelled through our Website Manager, the County Secretary or myself. This procedure is not always efficient when speedy direct contact is required, and it is notable how quickly people get put off if there are delays in responding or passing contacts on.
The preferred solution would be a route for newcomers to approach clubs directly. Consequently, our aim is to ‘beef up’ website information. One such objective is to produce a map of the county showing (bullet-pointed) the locations of affiliated clubs. These would link to a list of clubs and contact Email addresses. For the sake of confidentiality we thought it would be unwise to include in this information personal addresses, and this is a policy of the Association in all matters of information transfer. I therefore request that each club earmark a responsible and responsive individual (or perhaps two) who is/are prepared to act as an email contact for the potential new member.
Please Email me with Club Name…….1st Contact Email……..2nd Contact Email and a simple line of consent, with the names of the Club Committee members who have consented to this.
N.B. This is important – please do not ignore.*********
